Sky Digibox Variations

Have you ever wondered why your friends Sky digital receiver works faster than yours when both receivers are the same make and model number. The manufacturers have produced a variety of Sky digital receivers using different outer casings and in some instances the inners may be the same. Likewise you may find that two receivers of the same make and model number may contain different inners (newer & older versions). As a guide up until mid September 2001 the amount of minor variations made to Sky digital receivers are as follows: Grundig (16), Sony (8), Amstrad (11), Pace (18), Panasonic (14).
These of course refer to small changes, which would not have any major effect on the overall performance of the receiver. For the purpose of identifying a Sky digital receiver it is best to refer to the NDS number printed on the underneath or rear of the receiver. These numbers signify major variations made to the Sky digital receivers, IE: new type of tuner, microprocessor etc. As a guide all Grundig receivers start with 4E and it is the first two numbers that signify the change, to date they have produced 4 major variations these are NDS 4E01...., NDS 4E02....., NDS 4E03..... and NDS 4E04.... the last one referring to the GrundigGDS 310/2 and possibly the GDS 210/2 (They may be the same receiver).

Here is the complete list (current at mid September 2001) NB: We will not be updating this list, it is intended purely as a guide for identification purposes. All the following variation numbers are always prefixed with NDS..ETC, we have mentioned some typical models which would normally apply to each NDS number, however this can vary as mentioned above.
