Question 1

How much will a Sky digital system cost?

The equipment is free subject to certain requirements, the main one being that the receiver must be connected to a UK telephone line for a period of 12 months. At the moment we are authorised by Sky to supply and install the equipment free of charge, subject to conditions. The equipment is supplied under a Sky contract and has to be installed by an approved Sky fitter. We can sell Sky Digital receivers which are free from all Sky UK restrictions, these have been purchased at a much higher price but they are your's to do as you wish see: Sky Abroad. These receivers are normally sold at £199.00, beware of anyone offering a much cheaper export box, it may well be a UK subsidised Sky receiver and you could find yourself being switched off.
Question 2

All my neighbours dishes are at the front of the house can mine be placed at the back of my property?.

Yes, it may incur additional costs for extra bracketry, this will raise the dish above the level of the guttering in order to point towards the roof.
Question 3

I have a distribution box in the loft to supply the TV's throughout the house, can I also have Sky on my other TV's?.

An independant installation engineer should be able to do this fairly easily but will make a nominal charge.
Question 4

I would like to use my remote to change the sky channels from any TV in the house.

Assuming you have a distribution box supplying all TV's with Sky this will need to be replaced with a 2, 4 or 7 way Digital amplifier (D.A.box).

click here to go to Accessories.

The Digital amplifiers (D.A. boxes) will split and amplify the TV signals plus allow a small voltage to pass through to each TV point. This is necessary to work the TV/Link (magic eye) which will need to be fitted at each outlet to transmit the remote control functions.

Question 5

Can I choose which make of Sky box I want?.

Any independant dealer should be able to supply most makes (IE:Pace, Panasonic, Grundig, Sony, Amstrad).
Question 6

Are all Sky Digital boxes the same?.

Most people will tell you that they are, whilst they all operate the same way using the same Sky remote there are a number of variations. All have their own distinctive style, some digiboxes contain faster processors for quicker access to channels, others provide better threshold facilities which are ideal for use in weaker signal areas. Your dealer will be pleased to give advice on this.
Question 7

Does everyone charge the same?

Some independant dealers may charge slightly more, this is because they can guarantee to supply a make of Digibox to suit your needs and one which has a virtually trouble free track record. This together with an excellent local back up and advisory service must be worth the small additional fee.
Question 8

What is a standard installation?.

This includes fitting and aligning the Digidish & wall brackets and up to 15 metres of high quality satellite cable to feed one TV in the house. For existing Sky customers the existing cable will be used wherever possible. The installer will ensure that the TV and VCR are tuned to receive the Sky programmes, activate the Sky card (if it has arrived from Sky) and give a demonstration on the main user features.
