Manufactured by Pace and Thomson the Sky HD box contains the Sky+PVR functions which will enable you to record, rewind and pause live broadcasts. The output video is via HDMI and DVI. Sky's HD channels will be broadcast in either 720p for progressively scanned picture or 1080i for interlaced picture. The box allows you to select between 720p / 1080i / Auto, the general opinion is that the pictures look slightly better in 1080i, all channels are encoded by Sky in Mpeg4 before broadcast.
Purchasing a receiver outright. For existing customers requiring to upgrade their Sky plus receiver to a Sky HD, these are an ideal solution. The receiver replaces the Sky plus using the same connections, simply insert the existing Sky card into the new HD box and telephone Sky. Please note that Sky will charge an additional £10 per month for the HD facilities. A twin or 4 output LNB will be required at the end of the dish to allow the 2 feeds from the dish to the receiver, this can be supplied with the Sky HD receiver.
